Evanescent by LAlight Evanescent by LAlight
We camped at 2nd Beach in La Push trying to capture the perfect sunset. The sky was lackluster as the sun sank behind the sea stack, and for a long time after. Behind me, the moon was rising over another sea stack, and it was gorgeous. I took a few shots of it, but for some reason, though, I kept turning back and shooting west. And then, it happened. For the briefest moment, the sky turned purple and orange and pink, showing just enough color for me to pull off a few shots. And just like that, it was gone.

Sunset
2nd Beach, WA

Please check out this amazing shot from :iconblyndspy:, who was shooting the beautiful rising moon on the other end of the beach. :)

Both gorgeous shots! the slivers of orange in this one adds a nice fiery appeal, especially reflecting off the water on the left there - I like that. The complete purple atmosphere in the other one is just to-die-for and sets a really nice calmingly zen mood. Between your take and your friends' shot; it's like lavender and sandalwood. Fantastic work!

Really appreciate the in depth comment, Allan. Thanks so much for checking out Addam's shot as well! I love your comparison of our shots to lavender and sandalwood. :)

Beautiful! I camped out there when I was in the Olympic Peninsula, but it was cloudy the entire time :(

Thank you! I was actually bummed that there weren't more clouds while I was visiting. It made shooting waterfalls less than perfect, and that was one of the main goals of the trip. Maybe next time!

West is the way to face on the Right Coast (with apologies to those who happen to live on the Wrong Coast :D) Yes, the marine fog kills all but a select few sunsets except in winter, when the land is cold enough to not create a rush of moisture to the horizon at sunset (assuming that everything is not already covered in clouds, that is). The NOAA cloud cover forecasts are the best friend for those of us playing peekaboo with the sun. [link] But you did great to capture the briefest of flashes through the crack in the clouds. There used to be a gorgeous formation of rocks to the right of where you were, last time I attempted to capture it was a total bust [link]

It was definitely a switch for me. Being from the East, it's all about sunrises over here, and I'm sometimes not much of an early riser, despite it being necessary for my career. I felt very lucky to have seen the color, as brief as it was, because it was quite lackluster before and after. I felt doubly lucky because it's not like I have the luxury of going back there any time I feel like it! It's crazy, it doesn't even look like the same beach, yet I can clearly see the formations that were present when I was there. Are those rocks gone or did I just not see them from your perspective? Speaking of perspective, it really was challenging to not do the cliche shot from Second Beach, but I couldn't help it.

Don't know, I have not been back for a couple of years. I would be surprised if they are not still there, it may be a matter of the right kind of tide to see them, or they may have been buried in sand.

True, but I think yours has an emotional quality that mine doesn't...sometimes having all of those colors mixed together confuses the senses...yours is all blueish, making a clearer statement of feeling.
