First off LeeAnne, let me say that this is my first attempt at writing a real critique, so i hope so much that my words do this work of art the justice it deserves.
As the picture opened on my screen, I was immediately captured by the stunning greens. The illumination you've captured here, has added a somewhat surreal (I almost hate using this word, but I'll explain) look to the piece. As i continued to look at it, it hit me that it almost looks as if you shot this at night, with an array of lighting rigs. The contrast between the dark "caveish" area and the perfectly exposed cascades is so strong, giving it this different appearance.
Your composing skills are, as always, top shelf. Again, I'm left with the feeling that I'm "in the picture", as I can almost hear the calming waters flowing down, in front of me. Being as I share your love of falls, it seems as though a lot of your shots do this to me. You've really gotten into the fall, and brought that certain soothing factor, that we love about them, out of our monitor and into our actual senses. I can only imagine how much contentment you were feeling, as you were setting this up. Even had the shot NOT come out so perfect, you would still have been in a state of bliss, i'm sure.
At first, I thought that the deep blacks between the upper rocks, were a slight negative to the shot. As I was getting lost in the shot though, I realized that it was this same darkness that made the whole shot POP so much, and gave it that "surreal" atmosphere that I spoke of, earlier.
Shots like this, is why the dA experience is so great for me. I always look forward to all your work, and I can say these words to almost all of them. This one actually moved me to finally put all these thoughts to words. I hope I came close to even half, of doing justice to this beautiful work.
